Mario Vargas Llosa the Peruvian novelist, was awarded the nobal prize for literature in 2010. His most recent novel is The Neighbourhood. He was interviewed for the wordpost by Michael Skafidas, a journalist and professor of comparative literature at the city University of new York.
So Here I am sharing the ideas which l like the most from his interview.
1. I like one line that "If you respect literature you must accept not only the very idealist, altruist vision of human beings but also the infernal vision of them" when you say that I love literature and I respect literature, at that time you may accept some work of literature which is ldealist. In our literature there are many novels and plays which are based on feminist approach. For example in the Interview, he give one example, Nabokov's "Lolita", 20th century novel. Readers attacked it because they claim the main character is a pedophile. "Pedophile" means someone who is sexually interested in children. Nabokov tells the story of humbert who is a perfect example of a pedophile. According to me this novel is mirror of society. So In our society there are many pedophile.
2. "Georges Bataille said that in human beings, there are angels and devils. Sometimes the angels are important, but for literature, devils are important too." I like the thought of Bataille. For example when you write something new and you only talk about good things in your novels or articles, people will happily accept. But when you talk about something bad things which is related with our society at that time you become bad writer. People will not accept your novels and articles. As we all know that,
" one coin has two sides,
" one coin has two sides,
Same in our society one man have two personality. One is good or other is bad"
3.The ideas of Sartre encouraged me to become a writer and made me understand that writing was not only for creating pleasure but also a tool for change.
4. All writers are autobiographical. In some writers, this is more explicit and obvious, in others more hidden. But I don’t think you invent anything out of nothing. The main point of departure is always the personal memory of actual experience.
